Mnemba is a unique, small island located 20 minutes away by boat from Muyuni beach, north east of Unguja Island. Visiting the island is a great opportunity to experience a beautiful marine habitat which is home to a diverse array of the Indian Ocean wildlife. Up to 600 species can be found at this magnificent sight. The main attraction of the island is to snorkel with the coral reef fishes and swim with dolphins, as well as to rest on the sand bank during low tides. A trip to Mnemba Island will definitely satisfy all your wishes to experience a magical underwater world. Mnemba provides the snorkeler with the opportunity to view the best fishes in the Indian Ocean. A Marine Reserve, well known for its fish life like lionfish, moray eels, stingrays, and turtles swimming around in the shallows. Venture further out the reef drops away into a big reef wall inhabited by schools of giant trevally and emperor fish hunting, yellow snappers, barracuda and if possible napoleon fish and turtles. The snorkeling trips are accompanied by an experienced guide who will help you find the fish, answer any questions you may have about them and ensure you are safe and comfortable. Green turtles can occasionally be seen at this spot since they go to the island’s beaches to lay their eggs at certain times of the year.
